FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE  |  Thursday, February 6, 2025

FORT BEND COUNTY, TX – Judge J. Christian Becerra, current judge of the 434th District Court in Fort Bend County, has officially announced his candidacy for Fort Bend County Judge.

A native of Fort Bend County with roots dating back four generations, Judge Becerra has served the 434th District Court for five years. He has over 25 years of legal experience in criminal, civil and family law, including serving as an Assistant District Attorney in the Fort Bend County DA’s office and as a named partner in his Richmond, Texas law firm. In his current role, Judge Becerra serves as the Administrative Judge for the Council of Judges, responsible for running the Fort Bend County Justice Center.

“Leaders lead,” said Judge Becerra. “I won’t stand for anyone who uses hate to drive a wedge between our communities. My catalyst for running for Fort Bend County Judge is to provide qualified, experienced leadership to bring our divergent community together. We are better together, and Fort Bend County deserves a leader who recognizes and appreciates our greatest asset: our people.”

An advocate for community outreach programs and charitable organizations, Judge Becerra serves on the boards of Fort Bend Family Promise, Attack Poverty and the Fort Bend Literacy Council. In the 434th District Court, Judge Becerra provides guidance and leadership in the Felony Mental Health Court, an issue he is passionate about addressing in the justice system. Under his leadership, the Mental Health Court offers individualized treatment options and rehabilitation programs aimed at reducing recidivism rates and assisting individuals with becoming productive members of society. Additionally, he has organized the Behavioral Health and Suicide Prevention initiative, where he actively participates in Town Hall Meetings and works with Fort Bend County school districts to address mental health needs in our community.

“Our county deserves experienced, competent leadership to adequately manage a $731 million budget and over 3,500 employees,” said Judge Becerra. “Our relationships within our community, in Austin, and frankly, in the nation, have been compromised.”

Judge Becerra is committed to effectively utilizing Fort Bend County’s resources by focusing on areas of concern, including the following:
A Safe, Secure Fort Bend: More boots on the ground in law enforcement is vital for the safety of our residents. Our Sheriff’s Office currently has an overwhelming deficit in deputies who are tasked with patrolling 875 square miles in Fort Bend County.

Controlled, Thoughtful Growth for Fort Bend: With an ever-increasing population and multiple master-planned communities on the horizon, planning for the future is paramount for success. Resources must be spent on essential infrastructure to ensure positive growth and success for Fort Bend County – roads, water, law enforcement.

Qualified Leadership: Fort Bend is the ninth largest county in Texas with nearly a million residents. Fort Bend deserves a County Judge who understands the law, has experience running a business and can navigate complex issues.

Fort Bend – Better Together: We must come together and work in cooperation with one another. Hate has no place in Fort Bend County. Our diverse community deserves comprehensive representation and thoughtful, qualified leadership with the ability to work together for the good of our residents.

Judge Becerra will remain on the bench of the 434th District Court throughout his campaign continuing his service to Fort Bend County. He is married to Lacy, a native of Richmond, Texas, and has three daughters: Cierra, Elizabeth and Gabriella. The Becerra family continues to reside in Richmond where Judge Becerra was raised.

“As one of Texas’ fastest-growing counties, we need an experienced steward of the people – a leader who ensures Fort Bend is on a path to success. I am dedicated to leading this county, our people and our future.”
